The original '3 Strikes' law

Its no secret that the foundations of America's moral and judicial law and ethics are directly taken from the Word of God. It has been argued that America is not a Christian nation, but it cannot be denied that God was the first to set the parameters for human social, sexual, and legal interaction. You may wonder where the idea of the controversial "Three Strikes Law" may have come from. Sports comparisons aside, there are serious consequences for the offender via the modern 3SL just as it was in Biblical times.

According to Wikipedia, "Three strikes laws are a category of statutes enacted by state governments in the United States, beginning in the 1990s, to mandate long periods of imprisonment for persons convicted of a felony on three (or more) separate occasions. The term is borrowed from baseball and is generally colloquial in its usage, as such statutes are most often known officially as mandatory sentencing laws or some variant thereof."

The Bible declares that God is merciful while simultaneously affirming his acute sense of justice. Homosexuality was communicated as an specific affront to the holiness, creativity and relational intention of God. As such, we see the mercy of God transform itself into judgment for those who rejected his admonitions to turn away from the conduct.

  • Leviticus 5:3 Here, God addresses situational moral and sexual sins. The word "uncleaness"” is translated from the Hebrew tame. Because sexual contact between males was defiling, God charged the priests and Levites to deal with it as object lessons of his holiness.

  • Leviticus 18:22;24-30This is the second, more distinct command issued by God prohibiting male/male sexual relations. Contrary to biblical revisionists who say this scripture does not foresee "committed, monogamous gay relationships", Leviticus 18:22 is a sweeping condemnation of all homosexual unions whether forced or consensual.

  • Leviticus 20:13This is the 3rd warning advising homosexuals of the ultimate consequences of their actions. Like a father God allows opportunity for repentance, but when it is refused man reaps the consequences: death. As the wise Solomon said in Proverbs 14:12, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is death." The word "abomination." is derived from the Hebrew "toevah", which denotes a clash of basic dispositions between the righteous and unrighteous. Hence, homosexuality was understood as destructive to the family structure and society.
