SOVO's 65,000 gay vet hoax

In its Friday edition, the gay newsweekly Southern Voice trumpets that 65,000 gay veterans live in Texas. Sovo attributes the number to Urban Institute, a "nonpartisan econimic and social policy organization". But they are dead wrong. The 65,000 is muddy, fuzzy math. Actually its a lie. There are no 65,000 gay veterans in Texas. Here's the actual quote from the UI website report: "Estimates suggest that more than 36,000 gay men and lesbians are serving in active duty, representing 2.5 percent of active duty personnel. When the guard and reserve are included, nearly 65,000 men and women in uniform are likely gay or lesbian, accounting for 2.8 percent of military personnel." link here First let me lob a few questions at this assertion by UI. 1. Whose estimates determine that there are 36,000 gay men and women serving on active duty? 2. What methodology did they use to determine or estimate this number, especially given the "dont ask, dont tell" policy currently in effect? 3. Simularly, how do they determine the additional numbers of "gay men and women" in the National Guard? Without, credible scientific evidence to back up these claims, they are nothing more than hyped, liberal leaning theory mongering. The report is intended to be a fiery dart aimed at Texas Govenor Rick Perry who recently told gays who didnt like Texas law to consider living somewhere else. Classic "Dont mess with Texas" language. So, enter the 65,000 myth. Its as if to say Perry, you just offended 65,000 voting gay citizens of Texas! Not a fat chance. Perry was right to lay down the facts: If you don't like it, leave. Or do like every other citizen and work within the legal framework to change laws you don't agree with. Gays don't want to use fair legal means to change laws. They employ activist judges, emotional hand wringing arguments and superhyped "statistics" to sway public opinion. Remember the 10% myth? Well, at best there are 2.8% of the population is fixed homosexual. All others flucuate and many have completely left homosexual identities. There are no 65,000 homosexual veterans in Texas.
